Upon my return from the Amazon, I have become a little obssessed with the National Geographic channel and Animal Planet. I think it is because of all the crazy, cool, wildlife that my dad and I saw when we were there.
Thanks to a very intelligent and patient guide, we were able to see a straight up National Geographic moment. As we were going along, we saw a hawk who was hunting on these little nests. Our guide informed us that there were chicks in the nest and that is what he was looking for. We witnessed a him dive bomb the nest, pull out the chick and then eat the chick. In my dads words, “Cool.”

I returned home Wednesday from Peru. I have never been more happy to return home, especially to the safety and convenient United States.
Usually, I loathe going through immigration and customs, but I was anxious to get back to civilization and my regular routine. Our flight home was long, and we missed our connection in Atlanta. But were on the next flight, in first class. So it somewhat made up for Delta’s screw-up. It was also nice coming home, because Dean was FINALLY here, after FOUR months of being away.
I will admit that it is difficult to share space with someone again after a long absence. I have gotten used to doing what I want, sitting on the couch the way that is comfortable for me, sleeping in the middle of the bed, cooking what I feel like at night, and using my computer freely. We are working on it, it will again take some time.
The one thing that I missed in the jungle was pizza. Every meal (I always ate beets and rice), I dreamed of pizza. We have had pizza two nights since I got back.
So, life begins to get a little hectic in the next couple of weeks. Summer will soon be here and then I will have no life as working two jobs takes up most of my time. But a relaxing 9 days in the jungle was a good way to prep for what is to come.

Yesterday, I left my house at 3:30am. I arrived at my hotel in Lima, Peru this morning at 1:30am. What a fabulous day huh?
Spent most of the day laying on the floor in Mexico City airport. But it was all good when we boarded the plane and I had an ENTIRE row all to myself. I slept the whole way to Lima.
Now it´s out to the jungle. Needless to say, there is no internet access there, so see you in a few weeks.

Thanks to my hero….Anthony Bourdain, I am going to put this message on my voicemail next week…
“You’ve reached Emily. I’m in the Amazon, fighting off anacondas, you think I am joking, I’m serious, I might not be back to return your call”
or
“You’ve reached Emily, I’m in Peru, in the jungle, hoping not to encounter any psycho snakes, fish, insects, diseases or mammals. If I am standing upon my return, I will be sure to call you back.”

I am home, after a pretty much hellish Air India flight. I was suppose to come home Sunday, but long story short, we missed the train. Good news though, I got to spend an extra 48 hours with Dean.
I miss Dean terribly, and love England, except for the rain.
Once I am over the jet lag I will post more things about my lovely trip.

I need to get my vaccinations for my trip to the Amazon, which is proving very difficult because I can’t locate all my shot records from when I had a bunch in Australia and New Zealand. I dont’ remember what I have had and what I have not. So, during these few days at my parents, I am going to search through piles of crap that I have brought back from all my travels and attempt to get things together.
I have to get my yellow fever shot or else I will not be allowed back into the country. And what comes with a yellow fever shot…..a nice certificate in my passport. I love my passport and any extra stamps or visas or anything make me extremely excited. So, off I go, searching for my shot records!
